Welcome to PYJSBA's Spring Softball & Baseball Registration

Welcome to PYJSBA Player Registration!

We’re excited to open registration for the upcoming season! Please read the information below carefully to ensure your child’s registration is completed correctly.

Also, be aware, as you get to the end of registration, there are a few "add-ons" presented by our registration system. These are not PY offers, selected by PY, or necessary, but they are presented by Sports Engine for your consideration. PY does not benefit from  this added offers in any way.

Registration & Payment Overview

Our registration system requires a credit card on file, even if you plan to pay offline.

Payment Options

  • Online (credit card): Processed at checkout (3.25% + $1.25 processing fee).
  • Offline (Venmo, cash, or check):
    • You must still enroll in Auto Pay with a valid card to complete the registration form.
    • Once your offline payment is received, PYJSBA immediately marks your registration “PAID,” which cancels the scheduled auto-charge.
    • If you pay offline within 30 days, your credit card will not be charged.

A credit card is required to submit the form. If you exit without adding one, we will not receive your registration.

*For ALL registrations completed before February 2, Payment MUST be received by or on February 2 to ensure roster placements and last name on jerseys and apparel. If payment is not received at the time rosters fill, you may be contacted to ensure immediate payment or offered a reimbursement minus system fees.

*For ALL late registrations completed on or after February 3, Payment MUST be received before the first game of the season. Outstanding payments impact uniform distribution and game play. There is no guarantee there will be roster spots available. If teams are full, you will receive a reimbursement in the same form of payment.

Program Philosophy & Volunteer Needs

PYJSBA is committed to keeping costs as low as possible while providing:

  • uniforms
  • equipment
  • field maintenance
  • umpires
  • player development activities

As our program continues to grow, so does our need for volunteers.
We offer partial or full registration reimbursements to dedicated volunteers.
Opportunities are always posted on Facebook and emailed to families.

Please consider helping—our league thrives because of our community!

Team Formation & Evaluations

  • Teams are created based on age and skill level, determined at February evaluations.
  • Teams are capped at 12 players to maximize playtime and maintain fairness.
  • Coaches draft players after evaluations.
  • To keep rosters fair, we do not take teammate or coach requests.
    • Parents may ask a coach to add their child to the coach’s personal draft list, but there are no guarantees.
    • All PYJSBA coaches are vetted and certified.

Team schedules and placement cannot be guaranteed, but we do guarantee:

  • 1–2 weeknight activities (5–7pm window)
  • Every Saturday game

Attendance is not mandatory, but frequent absences slow development and make lineup planning difficult.

Players must meet game-attendance requirements to be eligible for All-Stars (8+).

Age Determination – Baseball vs. Softball

When registering your child for PYJSBA, it’s important to understand how age divisions are determined—especially since the rules differ slightly between baseball and softball.

⚾ Baseball Age Chart

  • The Baseball chart by Babe Ruth League states that eligibility is based on a cut-off date of May 1 each year. Babe Ruth League, Inc.

  • For example:

    • For the 2026 season: any player born prior to May 1, 2022 and on or after May 1, 2013 will be eligible for the Cal Ripken division. Babe Ruth League, Inc.

    • A player who turns 4 during May/June/July/August of 2022 is eligible for T-Ball. Babe Ruth League, Inc.

Softball Age Chart

  • The Softball chart uses a September 1 / August 31 birth‐year window to establish eligibility. Babe Ruth League, Inc.

  • For example: If a player’s birthday falls between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015, they are eligible for the 6U division in the 2026 season. Babe Ruth League, Inc.

✅ What This Means For Parents & Players

  • For baseball divisions, calculate your child’s age as of May 1 of the registration year.

  • For softball divisions, use the birth-year window of September 1 through August 31.

  • If you’re unsure which chart applies to your child (baseball vs. softball), just ask—we’re happy to help clarify.

  • Always register in the division your child is eligible for based on their birth date, unless coaches determine a “play-up” decision during evaluations.

ℹ️ Why The Difference?

  • Baseball and softball divisions follow slightly different rules at the national level (Babe Ruth League), so each chart must be followed accordingly.

  • Ensuring your child is placed in the correct age division helps keep competition fair and consistent across all teams.

JUNIOR UMPIRE PROGRAM — NEW FOR 2026!

As our first group of players from the 2022 season grows older and transitions into higher levels of play, PY is excited to launch our Junior Umpire Program for ages 12–16. This program allows developing players to begin officiating Rookie-level games from behind the mound, calling balls, strikes, and field-outs for a per-game stipend.

Qualified candidates will participate in:

  • A brief interview
  • An umpire clinic
  • A trial period paired with an experienced adult umpire

Participants who show strong aptitude, communication skills, and maturity will have the opportunity to work behind the plate at the Minors level and, eventually, the Majors level.
All candidates must apply using the standard Coaches/Umpires application.

2026 UNIFORMS

PYJSBA will continue its MLB-inspired uniform themes for baseball.
All baseball & softball players registered by February 2 will receive jerseys with their last names on the back.

Registrations after February 2 may still participate, but we cannot guarantee personalized jerseys.

Prospective coaches: if you’re hoping to request a specific MLB team color scheme, you must apply early. Each MLB team has multiple uniform variations, giving us plenty of flexibility, but requests are taken only from approved coaches.

Softball will continue to proudly represent the Pinelands Panthers at every level.

2026 DEADLINE TO APPLY TO COACH AND/OR UMPIRE: DECEMBER 31

This deadline is firm. Applying does not guarantee a coaching or umpiring position.

Here’s how the approval process works:

  1. PYJSBA Board reviews all applications after December 31.
  2. You will receive an email with your approval status no later than the first full week of January.
  3. Approved applicants will receive:
    • Their anticipated coaching or umpiring assignment(s)
    • A personalized checklist of required certifications
    • Instructions for completing all requirements before the season begins

Coaches must be fully certified before any interaction with players. Do not wait—apply today.

2026 DRILLS & SKILLS CLINICS (INCLUDED WITH REGISTRATION!)

All paid registrants ages 7–12 receive access to our indoor Drills & Skills Clinics, held 1–2 evenings per week from 6–8pm at a local facility—IF we have enough coaches to run them.

We need coaches from each division to participate for that division’s players to attend. Lead coaches receive a small stipend.

Clinic Purpose:

  • Provide additional fundamental work before evaluations
  • Help players build confidence
  • Allow coaches to meet players early
  • Give families high-quality instruction at no added cost

Approximate schedule:

  • 5–6 pm: Ages 7–9 (Baseball & Softball)
  • 6–7 pm: Ages 10–12 (Baseball & Softball)
  • 7–8 pm: Ages 13+ (Baseball & Softball)

Final schedule depends on coach availability. You can indicate interest in your application. Approved coaches will be added to the GameChanger app by the end of the first full week of January.

2026 COACHES’ MEETING & CLINIC (ALL LEVELS)

Late January / Early February • 6–8pm • Local Venue

This mandatory meeting covers:

  • Coaching expectations & handbook review
  • GameChanger usage
  • Certification checks
  • Equipment distribution
  • Practice scheduling
  • Team formation (TeeBall & all Softball levels)
  • Coaching strategies presented by experienced coaches

This meeting sets the tone for a successful, organized season.

2026 PLAYER EVALUATIONS (ROOKIES, MINORS, MAJORS, BABE RUTH)

Early–Mid February • Location TBA
Times:

  • 6–7:30 pm: Ages 7–11
  • 7:30–9 pm: Ages 12–16+

Players will participate in 25–30 minutes of evaluation drills so coaches can build balanced, competitive teams.
Softball may also hold evaluations if registration numbers warrant it.

2026 DRAFT & TEAM FORMATION

Immediately following evaluations, coaches for the Rookie, Minor, Major, and Babe Ruth baseball divisions (and softball if applicable) will meet to draft players based on evaluation notes.

TeeBall and most softball divisions do not attend evaluations but are welcome to help.

HOW PYJSBA BUILDS COACHING STAFF

Unlike traditional programs with a single “head coach,” PY uses coaching teams, where all approved coaches share duties and collaborate to create the best possible experience.

If someone prefers complete control or wants to run a one-coach operation, PY is not the right fit.
We are committed to teamwork, collaboration, and consistency.

SCHEDULE: PRACTICES & GAMES

PYJSBA works hard to accommodate availability and form coaching teams that suit family schedules.

Players can expect:

  • 1–2 weekly practices (5–7 pm)
  • Saturday games with approximate windows:
    • Ages 4–8: 9 am – 12 pm
    • Ages 9–12: 1 pm – 6 pm
    • Ages 13+: 10 am – 6 pm (dependent on MS/HS schedules)

Unless fields are unplayable, all scheduled practices and games will occur.

Attendance is not mandatory—but consistently missing practices or games does affect team development and lineup planning.

2026 VOLUNTEERING — PYJSBA IS 100% VOLUNTEER DRIVEN

We rely on volunteers for:

  • Pre-season field prep
  • Equipment organization
  • Uniform distribution
  • Snack Shack staffing and donations
  • And more

We announce volunteer needs on Facebook and email.

HARDSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

PYJSBA believes every child deserves a chance to play.
Families facing financial hardship can apply for assistance during registration.

With the support of sponsors, we offer a deeply discounted rate in exchange for volunteer hours.

Scholarship Structure:

  • Partial Scholarship: $100 registration fee (any level)
    • Requires 3 shifts (6 total hours) of Snack Shack or complex volunteering
  • Full Scholarship: 100% reimbursement (minus system fees)
    • Requires 5 shifts (10 total hours)

Scholarships are per child, not per family.

Refunds are issued in June after volunteer hours are verified.

PYJSBA REFUND POLICY

Life happens—we understand that circumstances may change.
Our refund policy exists to:

  • Maintain fairness
  • Support team stability
  • Protect PY’s Spring Season budgeting obligations

All refunds are minus system processing fees.

2026 PY SPRING SEASON OVERVIEW

A shorter season—with a clearer picture of what to expect, packed with more excitement and newly expanded All-Star opportunities!

PY Baseball & Softball is excited to roll out a refined season structure. This new schedule gives families a tighter regular season, more meaningful playoff play, and expanded local All-Star opportunities for more athletes than ever before.

Below is the clearest parent and coach guide we can provide on how a Spring Season with PY will work across Teeball (5u-6u), Ripken Baseball (7u–12u), Babe Ruth Softball (8u-17u), and Babe Ruth Baseball (13u-16u).

BASEBALL (Ages 7–12) — Regular Season

April 4 → Week of May 4–8

  • Each team is scheduled for 10 games (1 weeknight + Saturday games).
  • Built-in allowance for up to 2 rainouts with no makeups needed.
  • Every team is guaranteed 8 completed games, even in a worst-case weather scenario.
  • This creates a shorter but more eventful season, making room for playoffs and a fully upgraded Local All-Star Showcase.

SOUTHSIDE TOURNAMENT (PLAYOFFS) — MAY 9–23

Our annual playoffs for all divisions.

  • Baseball 7–12: Full 3–4 round playoff bracket based on standings.
    • Top 4 teams qualify for championship bracket.
    • Additional teams (if an even number) receive consolation games so every athlete closes their season with a meaningful matchup.
  • Softball: Playoffs held only if division size allows (not guaranteed).

The Southside Tournament remains one of the best parts of the PY season—intense, exciting, and a chance for every player to finish strong.

LOCAL ALL-STAR SHOWCASE

May 30–31 (Primary Dates)

June 1 (Rain/Backup)

The All-Star Showcase has been redesigned to allow more players from each division to be recognized and to prepare top performers for District, State, and Ironman tournament play.

Location:

  • All Wars Memorial Field (primary).
  • If weather forces expansion, games shift to three fields with times TBD:
    • Rookies → Tip Field
    • Minors & Majors → LEH Complex Field 1
    • Babe Ruth → All Wars

Showcase Game Times (May 30)

  • All game times TBD based on what divisions in Baseball and Softball participate.

What’s New This Year

  • Each divisions’ coaches compiles a single list of 24 All-Star nominees based on performance, behavior, and team need.
  • The board drafts two balanced teams per division.
  • Teams receive one full week of practice before the showcase (May 24–29).
    • Times and Locations: TBD
  • Showcase includes:
    • Player introductions
    • Music
    • Balloons
    • Photos
    • District, Ironman, and Regional Roster announcements (if applicable)

DISTRICT/STATE/IRON MAN/REGIONAL SELECTION

  • During showcase play, final evaluations will be made to select 12 "Most Outstanding Players" (MOPs) for each division’s District/State or Iron Man roster.
  • Winning staff from the showcase gains first right to coach the District/State/Iron Man/Regional team.
  • Losing staff from the showcase may replace uninterested staff on the winning team or informally assist. If not replacing a winning coach, and just assisting, they may not serve as dugout staff in District/State/Iron Man/Regional games unless appointed by the board.

District/States/Iron Man/Regional Schedule:

  • Districts: 3-4 dates on or around June 11
  • States: 3-4 dates on or around June 23
  • Iron Man: 3-4 dates on or around July 6
  • Regionals: 3-4 dates on or around July 17

BABE RUTH (13U-16U)

  • New update: direct to Regionals—no Districts/States/Iron Man.
    • These teams are the hardest to roster as they span 4 age groups, and we often don’t have enough players, but every year is different!
  • If PY does not send an official Regional team, they likely still participate in the local showcase. We may also offer a separate tournament if coaches are available.

SOFTBALL (8U–17U)

Softball is fully included in our new structure, but follows a hybrid interleague model due to historical participation numbers.

Regular Season

  • Softball teams traditionally run an 8–10 game interlocking schedule with nearby towns including:
    • Barnegat
    • Waretown
    • Berkeley
    • Additional towns as needed
  • Playoffs may occur when division size supports it, but historically have not always been possible.
  • Softball divisions (8u–17u) will be included in local All-Star recognition, and All-Star formatting will mirror baseball when numbers permit.

TEEBALL (AGES 4–6)

This level is fun-first, developmental, and non-competitive.

Season Details

  • 10–12 scheduled games
  • Option to add games through mid–late June based on coach/parent interest
  • No playoffs, no All-Stars, no standings

Why?
TeeBall at PY is designed purely for:

  • Introduction to the game
  • Fun and fundamentals
  • Building confidence

The goal: smiles, not stress.

WEEK-BY-WEEK BASEBALL TIMELINE (SUMMARY)

  • April 4 – Opening Day
  • April 4 – May 8 – Regular Season
  • May 4–8 – Final weeknight games / playoff seedings
  • May 9–23 – Southside Tournament (Playoffs)
  • May 9–16 – All-Star nominations finalized by the PY Board

  • States: 3-4 dates on or around June 23
  • Iron Man: 3-4 dates on or around July 6
  • Regionals: 3-4 dates on or around July 17

WHY THIS NEW FORMAT WORKS

  • Shorter season = fewer conflicts, greater excitement, and fresh energy going into playoffs and All-Stars.
  • Built-in rainout buffer = no headache rescheduling.
  • All-Star changes allow twice as many players to be recognized and evaluated.
  • Softball gets an upgraded presence with clearer structure and expectations.
  • TeeBall remains true to its mission—FUN and DEVELOPMENT only.

DIVISIONS  BY AGE & REGISTRATION FEES

  • Every year, PYJSBA offers playing opportunities for all ages from 4-16 years of age. However, it must be noted that the number of registrations fluctuates from year to year. Should you register your child, and we don’t end up with enough registrations to formulate a team in that specific age group, we will contact you via the email you register with all available options, including reimbursement if necessary, no later than a week after the posted registration deadline.
  • 10% Early Bird Discount November through New Year's Day!
  • 10-15% Discount for families registering more than one player!
  • $25 Late Fee for Registrations Received After the 2nd of February. This is required to offset the cost of rush delivery on uniforms to ensure children who are registered late get their uniforms before opening day.

Important to Note:

  • PYJSBA SOFTBALL: While we continue to offer softball to girls in Little Egg Harbor and surrounding towns, like all programs, we don’t always have the numbers for multiple teams like baseball. Therefore, ALL levels will be entered into our closest "Interlocking District." Main games will again occur on Saturdays, along with home and away games with Lacey, Pt. Pleasant, New Egypt, Waretown, Stafford, and Barnegat.
  • If you have questions regarding level change requests, equipment needed, scheduling, volunteering, All-Stars, etc., please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page.

Tee Ball Baseball (Ages 4-7) - $225

Designed for Co-ed Ballplayers ages 4-6 to learn hitting and fielding fundamentals in a supportive team environment. Young athletes hit the ball from a batting tee, which is height-adjusted for a level swing, batting in order through the line-up for the entire game. The primary goal is to begin instructing young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive team environment.

Girls Only Softball (Ages 7, 8, & (lower level) 9) - $225

Designed for Female Softball players ages 7 through 9 to learn hitting and fielding fundamentals in a supportive team environment. The primary goal is to begin instructing young players in the fundamentals of softball in a supportive team environment.  Children younger than 7 must register for tee ball.  This division uses a pitching machine or Coach to allow more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field. Fear of actually being hit by a pitched ball is diminished. It makes the game safer and improves all participants' playing confidence and ability.

Girls Only Softball (Ages 9 & 10) - $225

Designed for Female Softball players ages 9-10. Players build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork. In most regions, there may be the possibility for participants to experience their first post-season tournament competition that could lead to post-season play, which is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter. For more information regarding All-Stars, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions Page.

Girls Only Softball (Ages 11, 12, & 13) - $225

Designed for the experienced level of Babe Ruth Softball players, ages 11, 12, and 13. Babe Ruth Softball is played under the official softball rules like other levels, but some special rules are implemented as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. In most regions, there may be the possibility for participants to experience their first post-season tournament competition that could lead to post-season play, which is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter.

Girls Only Softball (Ages 14, 15, & 16) - $225

Designed for the most experienced level of Babe Ruth Softball players, ages 14, 15, & 16. Babe Ruth Softball is played under the Official Softball Rules. In most regions, there may be the possibility for participants to experience post-season tournament competition that could lead to post-season play, which is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter.

Rookie Baseball (Ages 7 & 8) - $225

Designed for Co-ed Ballplayers ages 7-8, this division uses a pitching machine or Coach to allow more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field. Fear of actually being hit by a pitched ball is diminished. It makes the game safer and improves all participants' playing confidence and ability.  In most regions, there may be the possibility for participants to experience their first post-season tournament competition that could lead to post-season play, which is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter.

Minors Baseball (Ages 9 & 10) - $225

Designed for Co-ed Ballplayers ages 9-10.

Majors Baseball (Ages 11 & 12) - $225

Designed for the most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball Co-Ed ages 11 and 12. Cal Ripken Baseball is played under the official baseball rules, but some special rules are implemented as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. In most regions, there may be the possibility for participants to experience their first post-season tournament competition that could lead to post-season play, which is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter.

We register our Major Teams for the Major 50/70 format.

Unlike other programs, PYJSBA offers this format to prepare for movement to 60/90 fields. This format features a 50' pitching distance and 70' base paths. Special base running rules are also in effect as leads and head-first sliding are permitted. There may be the possibility for participants to experience a tournament trail from District competition through the World Series. Post-season play is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter.

Babe Ruth Baseball (Ages 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16) - $225

Founded in 1951, Babe Ruth Baseball League was created for ballplayers ages 13-16 who wished to continue their baseball playing experience beyond 12. This is where players get their baseball cleats muddy for the first time on standard 60/90 diamonds under Official Baseball Rules used by Major League Baseball. Babe Ruth practices and home games traditionally occur on Pinelands Regional grounds. In contrast, away games are played within an hour's driving distance against opponents registered within the Tri-State Elite Baseball League. In this division, there may be the possibility for participants to experience a tournament trail from District competition through the World Series. Post-season play is dependent upon the level of play that participants reach. If the possibility for post-season play occurs, evaluations are held to assemble the most competitive players possible within our charter.

TRAVEL BASEBALL & SOFTBALL OPPORTUNITIES

Why This Outline is Important

We provide this clear summarization because many parents and coaches ask questions about the difference between in-house and travel programs (PY travel teams or other organizations), scheduling, and how All-Star eligibility works. It also helps explain why players cannot simply “join” established PY travel teams mid-season—teams are carefully formed to ensure fairness, balance, and opportunity for all players. This framework ensures every participant knows expectations, can plan for practices and games, and has a clear path to development, competition, and All-Star opportunities. Clear communication upfront keeps the focus on fun, skill growth, and creating strong, positive experiences for every player.

IN-HOUSE VS. TRAVEL BASEBALL & SOFTBALL WITH PYJSBA
In many cases, the strongest players on our in-house teams also participate in travel programs. Their presence elevates the experience for less experienced players, setting the standard for skill, sportsmanship, commitment, and teamwork. These dual-participation players also develop leadership, empathy, and responsibility—qualities that players who only participate in a travel program may not have the same opportunity to cultivate.

In-House Baseball & Softball

  • Focused on fun, development, and teamwork.
  • Players of all skill levels are welcome.
  • The best players are spread across their divisions to keep teams balanced and games competitive yet enjoyable.
  • All games are local, played twice a week: one weeknight and one Saturday (early, mid, or late afternoon).
  • Playing in-house is required to be eligible for All-Star teams, and it’s strongly encouraged because it helps build camaraderie and prepares players for higher levels.
  • Flexible for travel players: If a player participates in a travel team, PYJSBA allows them to miss certain in-house practices while still remaining eligible for All-Star opportunities. We also include a buffer of up to four in-house games where travel players can still participate.

Travel Baseball & Softball

  • Designed for players seeking higher-level competition beyond in-house play.
  • Games are played in USABL (United States Amateur Baseball League) on Sundays during the spring or within TSE (Tri-State Elite League). Scheduling is done around PY in-house commitments whenever possible.
  • Travel requires additional commitment, including travel time (about an hour each way for many games) and extra practices mid-week.
  • PYJSBA helps coaches form travel teams, recruit players, enter leagues, and schedule games.
  • Participation in travel teams does not require in-house play, but it is highly recommended to stay connected to the PYJSBA community and maintain All-Star eligibility.

Balancing In-House and Travel

  • Players who participate in both programs schedule practices mid-week as best as possible around both commitments.
  • Conflicts are inevitable, and time off is encouraged to keep players physically, mentally, and emotionally fresh.
  • Playing in both programs allows players to experience local camaraderie and fun in-house, while also challenging themselves at a higher competitive level in travel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before, during, and after registration, questions arise. You are definitely welcome to reach out to our Player and Coach Agent, whose contact information can be found throughout and at the bottom of this page. It’s important to remember, PYJSBA representatives are volunteers and may need some time to get back to you. However, we often update our Frequently Asked Questions page to include many of the questions we receive from returning families to first timers. If you don’t find answers to questions here after reading through the detailed information, we urge you to check out the FAQs page, where you’ll likely get an answer right away. Because questions about PYJSBA’s All-Stars Program involve so many details, we developed its own page. Again, if you don’t find what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact our Player and Coach Agent.
